T.K. SOUL: Born Terence Kimble August 26th 1964 in the southern town of Winnfield La. He began his love for music and musical instruments at the early age of 7.Being a product of the 70s and 80s gave him a range of influences such as, The Jackson 5,Rick James,Prince,Stevie Wonder,Al Green,The Bar- Kays,Con funk shun,Maze,AWB and many many more. Pretty much everything on T.V. or radio at that time played a part in his musical development. At age 10 he got a guitar and soon realized that he could play any tune he heard note for note. Amazed by his God given talent, he began to try other instruments, and soon he was playing drums, piano, bass and lead guitar. By age 14, he was reading music and playing drums in the school band. He was so advanced that he was asked to play in the high school band while he was in jr. high. At age 15 thru 21 he went from school choir to church choir to playing with local bands that he often formed himself. His songwriting began after his first love broke his heart. T.K. and his brother started to D.J. in and around their local area and he would sing at the parties to R&B cover song tracks that he made himself. This was his first time singing solo. Soon he began to make demos, and for the next 8 years he tried to get a major record deal, traveling and living in Baltimore / LA. and Atlanta .Not having the proper knowledge of how that was done, he never got that deal. Not having the proper education or the desire to get it he turned to the one thing he knew how to do, play music. So he began to seek out jobs to play for recording artist. He was playing for a local group under 21 ( now known as Profyle on Motown Records) when the producer for platinum recording artist H-TOWN saw and heard him play the talk-box and keyboards he hired him on the spot to play for H-TOWN, thatís when it all began to pay off. Although playing all over the world with H-TOWN was one of the high lights of his life, it only prepared him for what was ahead. Soon after that saga ended he started looking for someone to record and sing his so called blues songs. He didn't want to be a singer so he sought and found someone to sing his songs. That someone was one of the best vocalist on the blues and southern soul scene , Willie Clayton. He got a job playing keyboards for Willie Clayton with the intent for Willie to sing some of his songs and it worked out for him and he said that was a great experience for him. He wrote the hits "Wiggle" and "Party Like We Use To". Three(3) years later he formed his own record label (SOULFUL RECORDS) and T.K. SOUL was born. I met him at a show once and we took a photo together. He has even taken the time to view my website and sign my guestbook.I am very appreciative for him taking the time out of his busy schedule to direct his attention to my website.
WILSON MEADOWS: Rhythm and blues singer Wilson Meadows was born in Chattanooga, TN. His father wasa minister, and like many soul singers, Wilson grew up singing in church. His entertainment career began after he graduated from high school in the early sixties with agroup called the ZIRCONS. In addition to Wilson, the ZIRCONS were Emanuel Thompson, Robert Eppinger, and two of Wilson's brothers Wallace and Eugene. They were influenced greatly by anotherhometown group, The Impressions, and were inspired by them to pursue careers in music. They recorded a single on the King and Federal labels out of Cincinnati Ohio, which atthe time had James Brown. That was approximately 1962. It was during the "twist" era when Wilson wrote a song called "No Twisting On Sunday". The single made severalrecord charts around the country and led the ZIRCONS to performing with such acts as the Drifters, The Spinners, Otis Redding, The Impressions and the late blues singerJimmy Reed. After a second release on the King label, "Mister Jones is a Bad Man" B/W "Get up and Go to School", the group continued to perform in auditoriums, clubs, and theaters around the country . In the late seventies the Zircons' name changes to the Meadows Brothers. Wilson, Eugene and Wallace signed with Atlantic Records and released the Wilson penned singles "I Can't Understand", and "I Tried It All". They had recorded a complete album of material, which was issued in 1981. Wilson continued to perform with the group for another twoyears, and the group disbanded after he decided to leave and start his own business. After a few years, Wilson decided to go back into the recording studio to put down a few demos. Wilson recalls, "we put about three or four songs together, at which point Bob Grady heard the songs and that's how the album came about" .The album "Memories "was released oversees on Bob Grady Records, a label that usually specializes in Country music. The album features Wilson's wife Jeanette Meadows as a background singer, and all the songs were written by Wilson. The album opens with the mid-tempo "Just Can't Do Without You", and continues with the poignant ballads, 'Just Like I Promised" and "Where Will This Leave Me". Wilson Meadows has recorded an album of contemporarysoul, and his high soul and vibrant tenor voice leave a memorable imprint on his album, Memories.Wilson Meadows is one of my favorite recording artists and remains one of the top artist on the southern soul blues scene.
NELLIE "TIGER" TRAVIS: Nellie Travis' love affair with music goes all the way back to southern Mississippi, and with a childhood filled with singing at church functions, weddings, and talent competitions. She is from my hometown of Mound Bayou,MS.We attended the same high school. This is why I truly love this BLUES AND SOUTHERN SOUL THANG. During the mid 1980's, she was lead vocalist for the Mississippi based group "SSIPP", opening for acts from Dee Dee Warwick to Ray Charles. During the period, she also recorded extensively in Memphis, under the direction of Ed Townsend. Since relocating to Chicago in 1992, Nellie has been singing throughout the Chicagoland area, Texas, Mississippi, New York, Indiana, Tennessee, Virginia, Michigan, and Wisconsin. She has been entertaining the crowds at the internationally famous Kingston Mines of Chicago since early 1997, backed by Sam Goode and the Cruisin Blues Machine. Not content to merely stand on the stage and sing, she keeps the room alive, often leaving the bandstand to get people involved in the show. It's not at all unusual for surprised audience members to find themselves with a microphone in front of them, or dancing on the bandstand.
RENEA MITCHELL: Born July 2, 1967 in Memphis, Tennessee to a large family. Renea Mitchell was exposed to music at an early age. Her father, Willie C. Mitchell (AKA Honkey Dory) was a DJ for well-known, Memphis radio station, WLOK. As a young girl, Renea would always attend his "D.J. gigs" and assist him with his records. When her grandfather passed away, she found out that Malaco Records recording artist, McKinley Mitchell was her cousin! She was inspired from that moment on, and always kept the dream of singing in her heart. In 1995 that dream was realized, when she was asked to sing backround for David Brinston's Southern Soul classic album, "Hit and Run". Under the leadership of Marshall Jones, she was able to sing backround on four of David's songs. Now, Jomar and Renea have worked to created a well-rounded Southern Soul album, intitled "The Road of Love".
