JANUARY 28,2008: MY FRIEND FROM TUSKEGEE,ALABAMA IS A BIG FAN OF THE BLUES AND SOUTHERN SOUL MUSIC.SHE SHARES WITH US HER CONCERT REVIEW. "THE ANNUAL 2008 MARDI GRAS BALL" Hi Blues and Southern Soul Fans, There is a saying that goes something like this...The same way one ends a year is the same way one begins a year. The last southern soul/blues show that I had the opportunity to attend on November 14, 2007 featured Wilbe recording artists Mr. Fred Bolton and Mr. Jeff Floyd. Well, I attended my first southern soul/blues performance of 2008 on saturday, January 26th. Ironically, Jeff Floyd an--special guest--Fred Bolton were the featured artists. they performed at the "Mardi Gras Annual Ball" in Mobile, Alabama. The show kicked off at about 11:30 due to the fact that there was a dj on hand, the people were "amped" and the floor was continuously packed as people danced to "Cupid Shuffle" and "Party Like Back In The Day". Dressed in his usual elegant "get-up", Fred charmingly and suavely walks up to the mic and adds fuel to the already engulfed flames!!! He commenced to introduce himself right before he went into his hit selection, "Must Be Jelly". I have found that the women especially tend to favor this song,it's a great dance-party song...As it will always have the people up on their feet. Fred's next selection was "A Change Is Gonna Come". As I enjoyed the show--I also was preparing a review in my head--I always try to see how people react to certain songs. As I stood at the corner of the stage I would look out at the audience. I could easily see that the crowd was very receptive to "A Change Is Gonna Come". As Fred sang this song, men and women were swaying, waving their hands, testifying and shouting things like "sing it" and "go on"!!! People were even slow-dragging to this number! There have been many people who have recorded "A Change Is Gonna Come" but without a doubt, Fred is in a class all by himself. The man's voice is just totally majestic!!! After his performance, Fred introduced his fellow label-mate, Mr. Jeff Floyd. Jeff walked out on stage singing Frankie Beverly & Maze's "Before I Let U Go". Since the dance floor was packed, people started dancing in the aisle. Sounding like Teddy Pendergrass, Jeff did a fantastic job on Teddy's "I Don't Love You Anymore". His third selection was my all-time fav Jeff Floyd-song, "Let's Get It On" without a doubt, he always does a great job with the group Solo's, "Heaven".His following selections were "Somebody's Gonna Lose A Good Woman", "King Size Bed", "You Had It All" and "Let Me Know". The crowd became "amped" all over again as Jeff performed "I Got My Woman Upset". He did an amazing job on Bobby Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now" and "That's The Way I Feel About You". Jeff told the audience that he was going to let his friend take them to church and Jeff got just what he asked for because as soon as Fred belted out the first note, as sure as his last name is (BOLT-on), the crowd sounded out like a thunder BOLT!!! Jeff ended the night with his hit, "I Found Love (On A Lonely Highway)". The people in Mobile, Alabama really showed much appreciation, support and love to Fred Bolton and Jeff Floyd. They both did a great job! I hope that you guys will enjoy the review.Take care and may GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU. DOT
